French artist and filmmaker Marion Sellenet, in collaboration with director Laëtitia Moreau, has released the movie/documentary Marion ou la métamorphose. This deeply personal and poetic film tells Sellenet’s own story as a woman living with FSHD, a rare and incurable muscular disease. But rather than a conventional illness narrative, the film is an artistic journey of identity and transformation.
Through collage art, photography, and theatrical elements, Sellenet blends reality with imagination. She shows how she no longer sees her condition as a limitation, but as part of a metamorphosis. The film raises profound questions about the divide between the sick and the healthy, and invites reflection on vulnerability, creativity, and the meaning of health.
Marion ou la métamorphose premiered in Brussels in September 2024 and is now available on Vimeo.
