FSHD Europe is delighted to announce that APN (Associação Portuguesa de Neuromusculares) has officially joined our network as a new member!

About APN, Portugal
Established in 1992 APN supports individuals with neuromuscular conditions across Portugal. Their mission is ‘To create better living conditions for people with neuromuscular diseases, along with their families and caregivers.’. This includes promoting their rights, providing material, moral, and technical support, and ensuring easier access to homes and public places.
Activities
APN is actively engaged in impactful projects that strengthen inclusion and autonomy. Many initiatives were launched, such as
Projeto ELEV(ARTE), which promotes inclusion, citizenship, and self-representation through creative and empowering activities.
Projeto “É Violência?”, which investigates and raises awareness about violence against people with disabilities.
Projeto Desprende‑Te, a groundbreaking scientific study, into the main barrier to social inclusion for people with disabilities.
Projeto (IN)Segurança na Deficiência explores the risks and vulnerabilities faced by individuals with disabilities in their daily lives.
FSHD Europe & APN collaboration
Collaboration is key; across Europe and beyond. By combining our resources and expertise, we can accelerate scientific research, advance clinical trials, and bring possible treatments closer to reality. We’re excited to strengthen these efforts with APN Portugal as a vital partner.
We therefore warmly welcome APN Portugal and their FSHD Europe representatives, Mr. Joaquim Brites and Mr. Bruno Valentim.
